Thailand and its sustainability best practice as a destination!

Examples of sustainable living are popping up all over the globe and Thailand isn’t one to shy away when it comes to implementing sustainable practice across the country. As one of the world’s most biologically diverse countries in the world, Thailand has a growing environmental awareness in civil society. With it’s tourism and events industry thriving, Thailand is on i’s way to becoming a leading sustainable destination. Besides economic growth and employment opportunities, there are also a number of other benefits that sustainable events will bring to local communities.

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) are a prime example of how Thailand’s event industry has recognised the potential of utilising its events for creating a culture of sustainability within the country.  They have developed a 5 year “MICE Sustainability Thailand” strategy which will help the destination excel and become one of the world’s top MICE destinations for sustainability.

The country itself met its set target from the UN’s Millennium Development Goals, and it is currently on track to reach the 2016 Sustainability Development Goals too. Teaming these achievements with the enthusiasm and leadership from the events industry really demonstrates the progress that Thailand will make in the coming years as a sustainable destination for tourism and events alike.
